"be supportive, like a good bra"

July 27, 2007

it’s been several days since i’ve blogged.. work has picked up quite a bit, where they make sure they squeeze every last drop out of us interns. =P But all’s good, coz next Friday’s gonna be my last day! Yippee!

I remember asking another intern who left much earlier, ‘will you miss this place?’. and he said ‘well, maybe yes la.” and i was appalled. now that i’m gonna leave soon, and as much as i wanna leave this dreadful place, i’m gonna miss my friends which I have made over this short term. Especially the contract/intern staff who really are one of the main reasons I actually like this place a little bit. =) Peiwen.. siwei.. ivan.. YH… thanks man, u guys rock…

wilford’s left for australia on wednesday.. and it’s been quite a short notice for most of us. we made a video and scrap boook for him… but we’ll definitely visit him ‘down under’ when we can!

it’s a friday today. the weekend is here, again. finally. yay! i like how we self-declare dress downs on fridays!

but school’s starting, and as much as I’m excited, I am wary of the challenges ahead.. it’s gonna be tough, the subjects i’m taking next term…

welcome back to singapore, Joy!

I’ve got this bubbling anticipation towards the end of this day. just feeling very bubbly, fizzy, and crazy. I want to laugh, sing and dance…

kickboxing was fun yesterday. =)

I wanna go to Bintan again! Actually, I just want to sleep in like nobody’s business! =P Zzzzzz…

music practice at 10am tmr.. i love music practices, esp the jamming after that…

i feel so random. my thoughts are like fresh popcorn outta the popcorn machine.. speaking about that, i really wanna watch DIE HARD!!! Die la, it’s not showing regularly now.. quick quick i wanna Die Hard 4.0 Date!! -you know who you are- ^-^

July 18, 2007

1 pm | Left the office for lunch, armed with 1 small umbrella. It was pouring, as if the clouds became a huge waterfall, and we are in the middle of it all.

1.10pm | Decided to lunch at the Soup Spoon @ Raffles Exchange. I had beef goulash whilst peiwen had clam chowder. i love the garlicky foccacia bread there! It’s really perrrrfect! pw ordered a wrap as well, supposedly some prawn wrap.

pw: i can’t taste the prawn.
me: let’s find the prawn.
and so we nibbled at the unrecognisable wrap filling, hoping to locate the prawns. this

went on for 15mins.

1.25pm |
pw: THERE! -picks at 2 tiny pieces of dried our prawn from the middle of the wrap-
me: huh? it looks like hey-bi…

And then we ogled at ’sexy’ shadows of people working in the kitchen through the frosted glass panel. and pw was trying to peek through the slit between the glass panels. peeping tom! =P Goodness, what would I do w/o her in my workplace! ^-^
It was not long after we walked out of the soup spoon when we were approached by one of them

promoters, asking us to do a survey, and then wanting to give us a free tour in their fitness centre. pw and i, having been very much traumatised by an earlier experience with free tours and packages and gyms and fitness centres, were apprehensive about giving this promoter any attention. -sigh- but he was so persistent, we just did the stupid survey.

when he said “thank you! i’ll contact you two again!”. -pw & janice look at each other with the knowing glance- history might just repeat itself. and it’s probably all YH’s fault, who is happily in india.

Walked back and saw a bunch of cedar girls on an excursion. goodness, why have an excursion in the business district?! looking at some statue… ha, and it brought back memories for pw and we started talking about name tags and how the coloured strips always represented our batch. my name tag had this coloured strip on its left side. I’m proud to say that I have gotten smarter after leaving crescent. I used to think that I would get to upgrade my ‘colour’ as I grew in seniority. I was looking forward to getting the black tag, the ones the sec4s had. In the end, I was stuck with the red tag for all 4 yrs. I only realised that a year later in sec2. =P well at least, NOW i know. =D

2.20pm | back in office. ^-^
The weather is good, the stomach’s filled, and the eyes are heavy.

Something beautiful… How saying ‘I love you’ to people who matter in my life, is an easy thing for me to do..

another rainy day..

July 18, 2007

the audition yesterday was somewhat normal, too normal, not very impressed with myself too. I didn’t see that word coming — spontaneity. read that people! spontaneity & creativity. I fumbled on ’spon.. spon..’ oops? haha.. it was more like an oral examination, of which the last of it was in jc, in mandarin. I somehow remember my primary school ones more vividly, how we would gather in the classroom, and the next person will wait by the doorstep, and another one would be seated with the script & picture, and finally, the hot seat, where u are 2 table distance away from the examiner! The script & pictures were always in this transparent slot folder, and I would scan for ‘jumbo words’ first. Then I’ll look at first and last few lines of each paragraph, and then look at the picture. Only when I had time, did I turn back to look at the script. Time was too tight. And I’d always take a long time on the chinese picture section, as my mind manually translates the english words to the chinese form, often getting stuck at them. Bridge = Tian1 Qiao2. Road = Ma3 Lu4. Boy = Nan2 Hai2. And it’s always about road safety. =P Quite miss those times actually.

after that we watched Big Momma’s House 2! Hilarious.. especially when the 3 yr old boy keeps hurling himself off every high platform he could find himself — the double decker bed; the playground; the cupboards; he even eats sand. that’s quite ridiculous actually. Nice way to end the beautiful day. Oh! And with a very very happy tummy too!

How does Crystal Jade make their porridge, brinjal, vermicelli vege so so so good?? I just can’t explain it. Until I learn the art of cooking like that at home, I’ll be one of their many many loyal patrons. lol!

enjoyed yesterday so much, thanks to you! <3

i can’t wait to wear my new clothes! I have to wait, coz they’re aren’t office clothes. I don’t like office clothes. They are expensive and uncomfortable. -pouts-

Saturday will be quite a packed day — a pleasingly packed day. Can’t wait to meet my cousins for our once-in-a-very-blue-moon lunch affair @ Rocky’s. Haha! And I can’t wait, even more, for DG later on after that! I love my DG, I love my AG!

I can’t wait, even even even more, for the concert at night! Brian’s performing, and it’ll probably be his finale~ And I just thank God that I don’t have to be emceeing instead, coz I really wanted to be there, and this time, I will be! =D

oh, and let me welcome my friends back to singapore! some have been back much earlier alreayd, but just wanna say.. welcome Ada! welcome Yoke Khee! welcome Zheguang! You italian mafias.. and also welcome Enlin.. haha..

i’m quite bo liao.

The ‘movies to watch’ list keeps expanding! I wanna catch ‘em before they stop showing…

And I really hope I get the modules I want. this term’s gonna be quite a rough ride… hold on tight Janice!

deep thoughts

July 18, 2007

–meant to be posted on 16 July, Monday–real discussions on the project task at hand finally started between the 2 interns.
It was a fruitful, friendly, self-entertaining meeting between the 2, where intrinsic
mathematical formulae involved in an extensive Macros system were figured out and understood. This gave a sense of fulfillment that the 2 interns had never felt since they stepped into the company. Though freedom seems near for the more fortunate intern, it is not all bliss because this project has to be completed by the time her term ends. It’s been more than 3 months already, it’s about time this misery ended.

Her eyelids weigh heavy. she plugs in to her creative zen, hoping that it’ll keep her awake — it helps only so little, she thinks to herself. She decides to blog.

Youth Sunday was really great, especially the video that Dancia made. She did a great job, and I believe it must have been a great relief for her now that Youth Sunday went well and is over. It was also her birthday! 15th July! Sweet dancia, Happy Birthday to You!! *hugz* She’s in for a little surprise later tonight.. =)

I’m so glad Brian came too. =) It’s been many prayers answered. Sermon was simple,
straight forward, and definitely very familiar to many. Not the kind that delivers an awakening jolt, but one that is perhaps, so familiar because it’s the true core of God’s purpose in our lives. Sometimes, we take for granted the things that are so familiar in our lives. Familiar seems common, and commonality always seems less valuable. In this world where everyone is trying so hard to be different, to distinguish themselves, phrases like “stand out, or backout” seem cool, or even inspiring. These are the source of motivations that seem to drive us nowadays, rather than the love of, and from, God. How sad. I fall into this whirlwind of expectations many times as well. But I love how gently God reminds us of our worth — that it’s not up to the world to judge, neither is it even ours to judge.
Now, that’s grace.

Further dwelling into the sermon made me think deeper… of how we may belong to the ’scratch & dent’ section, but never in the 2nd hand goods section. And that’s because we were never rejected. Not by God at least…. at most… at all.

He talked about how Jesus paid the full price for us. Let’s say, the full price is $10. And sin made us worth only $5. What does it make the remaining balance? A debt? Certainly not. Because it is not something I can even have the means to return, or the right to return. It is not something I can happily make up for by our own deeds, we are simply not worthy, or too weak to even try to understand the meaning of it all. As it is said, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

That is why I thank God that I have the chance to even talk to him, to even speak His name, to seek comfort from Him, to experience Him, His goodness, and to serve, or worse, being angry at Him when things don’t turn out right. Our relationship with God is not just a privilege, it is a completely undeserving honour.
Think again — Does familiarity really any less valuable?

like a psalm…

July 13, 2007

i love meaningful conversations, and what could be more meaningful, than to encourage a fellow Christian brother, to encourage in gentleness and respect, just like Jesus did. Praise the Lord!

I love how beautifully Your word guides
And how there is no such thing as fate, nor coincidence, nor luck.
And how running back a millionth time to You, is still the right decision to make.
Even more amazing, is Your love.
Everything just seems to fall in place. it’s so beautiful…
it’s chaotic out there, but my heart is at peace. not because i am without sin, or perfect; in fact, i’m full of them, like a boiling pot of vile potion. But it’s because I can pour it out to You, over and over again, because your love is like a bottomless pit – unconditional, where i can pour it all in
And when there’s nothing left, there You are to catch me, and I see Your face.

Thank You, Lord. *muackz*

July 11, 2007

Another day at work! And yes, I’ve finished eating my breakfast, and my sugarless soya bean drink. The breakfast menu is usually:
- steamed yam/pumpkin cake, or both! =P
- sandwiches (but I got really sick of them after eating them for brkfast for 3 months!)
- Burger King’s $1.95 crossanwich breakfast set. I’ll top it up to an icemilo so it’s $2.35.

that’s about it! And I try to do my morning devotions whilst i have breakfast at my seat too… ahh perfect.
===
friends, I’m trying to expand ‘the beautiful people in my life’ list on the right, so if you don’t see your blog address on it, do let me know on my chatterbox ok? =)
===
right, my supervisor is here.
===
oh no, the flower on my desk is dying… -sad- a pretty pink gerberra.
===
uh-oh, there’s work knocking on my door… we’re supposed to do this Mandarin-English version of a document, thankfully they aren’t expecting me to do translation! =PpPp great, sth new to do that officially overrides the current bundle of work I need to get done by. Yay!

i love the internet, i really do!

July 11, 2007

Yay! After many hours of contemplation, dilemma, research and frustration, I’ve finally decided on the modules I want to take this coming term. You know that way we ladies like to ‘think out loud’ to process our thoughts.. yea, thankfully I have a very patient ‘advisor’ over the phone — Brian! I wouldn’t have been able to think through this alone. =) Thankiezzz so much!

This term’s selection of subjects seem pretty scarce, and I have this bad feeling that I’m missing out some information. -shrugs- I really hope I get really nice profs and classmates this year — many project based modules too, so the people you work with really make or break your day.

yesterday was the first time I’ve ever been to a recording studio! For the recording of the song Dancia’s gonna use on Youth Sunday’s video!! Very excited! The room’s oh-so-cool, with all the professional equipment, and jeremy was totally in love with the keyboard/synthesizer… apparently it’s his new dream-thing now. oh well…

the mics were so retro! think a-go-go microphones, those silver squarish ones.. yeah! that’s what yvonne and i recorded with. And the guys recorded with the mic with a big ‘dish’ in front of it! Looks so pro!

Recording took almost 3.5hours man… coz we had to layer the instruments, voices, synthesizers, etc. and of course, we had to re-record certain places coz we were so nervous! Well, I think I was the one who needed to record so many times!!! Embarassing.. haha! But I kept breaking up… well.. what to do, first-time mah, un-professional cannn… *bleah* but nonetheless, it was an excellent experience!! Kudos to Jeff, who was SO EVER PATIENT to our constant mistakes, delays, fooling around! Jeff’s a member of our church too, and he’s the owner of the Studio too! He’s really always smiling, patient, and accomodating.. thanks Jeff! Here’s his studio details, seriously, it’s good stuff, just check it out if any of you needs to do ya recording… this guy does Graphic Design & Music Productions.

The name’s ‘This Studio’ (1 thing to add! I must say this! the cool thing is that the ‘t’ in ‘This Studio’ is a cross, and so you can either read it as ‘His Studio’ or ‘This Studio! yeap, yvonne noticed it and I also shared her enthusiasm..)

So again, it’s:
This Studio (His Studio)
496 Upper Bt Timah Road
#B1-20, Methodist School of Music
John Wesley Centre, Singapore 678099

Here are just some of the crazy photos we took, will upload the rest once I get them from Dancia! enjoy!

Something beautiful… How my life has a purpose — through knowing the Lord; No longer like a leaf blown every direction the wind takes it, but like a leaf, that knows it’s vine, and hence, its summers, springs, autumns and winters to come.
